Daughter of Hungarian-American cellist, Janos Starker, Gwen grew up surrounded by many of the world’s greatest musicians of our time. As a violinist, she chose a career path as a member of various orchestras and chamber music festivals, and also enjoyed sharing the stage with her family as a soloist. After the passing of her father in 2013, she established the Janos Starker Foundation to seek out and support the great young cellists of this generation through a bi-annual remote competition. Now based in Vienna, Austria, Gwen enjoys spending time with her two daughters (Alexandra Preucil and Nicole Starker), traveling and attending concerts, and running the Starker Competition.
