The program of the Pécs-based Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra showcases three distinct facets of twentieth-century Hungarian musical culture: the rich sound world of late Romanticism, folk-inspired song artistry, and the playful virtuosity of orchestral character pieces.

The opening work, Dohnányi's *Symphonic Minutes*, is a suite of five short character movements. With its graceful elegance, witty orchestration, and cinematic shifts in mood, it is among the composer's most direct and entertaining orchestral works. The piece is both virtuosic and playful, featuring subtle humor, energetic rhythms, and a rich palette of colors, making it a particularly engaging concert experience.

Selected songs from Zoltán Kodály's cycle *Twenty Hungarian Folk Songs* serve as a lyrical counterpoint to Dohnányi's expansive orchestral world. Kodály elevates the simplicity and depth of Hungarian folk music into a refined artistic expression: through the voices of two soloists, Hungarian landscapes, human destinies, and emotions emerge with natural immediacy.

After the interval comes the evening's most remarkable and intriguing work: Dohnányi's Suite in F-sharp minor. This large-scale orchestral composition reveals the extraordinary craftsmanship and late-Romantic vision of the young Dohnányi. The music reflects the influence of Johannes Brahms—traces of Liszt, Wagner, and the early Richard Strauss are also present—alongside Dohnányi's own distinctive voice: passionate melodies, monumental orchestral sonorities, and dramatic arcs unfold throughout the work. The opening movement is powerful and dramatic, followed by a playful, brilliantly virtuosic Scherzo. The third movement, *Romanza*, forms the lyrical heart of the suite, while the concluding Rondo brings release through its vitality and joyful character. Because the work is rarely performed in concert halls, it remains a true musical discovery even for experienced concertgoers.

This evening offers a unique journey through the diversity of Hungarian music, blending virtuosic orchestral brilliance, intimate folk-inspired moments, and rarely heard musical treasures.

Join us for this extraordinary experience!
