HAYDN, MOZART– CARTELLIERI!
The year 2027 opens with a concert by the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by György Vashegyi. The evening promises an enjoyable musical experience for Debrecen’s discerning audience, featuring works by two Viennese masters and a lesser-known contemporary. The program opens with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Symphony in C major, K. 338, a seldom-performed piece. It then features Mozart’s well-known Concerto in C major for Flute and Harp, composed during his Paris visit at the request of a family and now a staple for both instruments. After the intermission, the atmosphere deepens with Joseph Haydn’s Symphony No. 52 in C minor, revealing unexpected depth beneath his usual wit. The concert concludes with Antonio Casimir Cartellieri’s Symphony in E-flat major, composed by a nearly forgotten contemporary of Beethoven with ties to Vienna. Cartellieri, born in Poland to an Italian and a Lithuanian-German opera singer, wrote numerous operas, symphonies, and vocal and orchestral works. Thanks to Vashegyi and the Orfeo Orchestra, Hungarian audiences are rediscovering his music. Join us to explore two captivating eras at the turn of the century!
