WHEN SOUND ITSELF IS MAGIC
If asked about the most significant event in Italian musical history, the rise of opera is undoubtedly the answer. Opera became the dominant genre for Italian composers and remained the leading form for centuries, overshadowing musical theater traditions in other languages. It also gave rise to bel canto—“beautiful singing”—which remains a benchmark for vocal technique and sound among classical singers today. Italian music remains closely linked to the human voice, much as Italian cuisine's global fame and Italy's universal love of music are. Tonight’s program honors Italian music, performed by Kossuth Prize-winning soprano Klára Kolonits and her talented young colleague Szilveszter Szélpál, featuring works by renowned Italian Romantic composers. Expect beautiful melodies, emotional depth, and memorable performances, accompanied by Hungary’s largest orchestra, the Szeged Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Dániel Dinyés. This isn’t just a concert; it’s a rejuvenating experience with unforgettable melodies that will lift your spirits long after the show.
