ROMANTIC HEROES

After recent seasons featuring Haydn and Mozart programs, Kossuth Prize-winning conductor Gábor Takács-Nagy now presents a richly Romantic program. The concert opens with an overture by Franz Schubert, which the composer initially abandoned after several theatrical failures (The Magic Harp, Rosamunde) but later revived, eventually earning a place in the concert repertoire. Originally written for these staged works, Schubert repeatedly revised and reintroduced the overture after their lack of success. The program then features Max Bruch’s emotionally intense, serious, and virtuosic Violin Concerto No. 1. The soloist, Éva Kóbor, has been a member of the Festival Orchestra since 2024 through the European Orchestra Academy, having received an invitation after sharing first prize at the Végh Sándor Competition in January 2026. The evening closes with Robert Schumann’s Symphony No. 2, a work that highlights the composer’s struggles and his journey toward recovery from physical and mental health issues.

Experience for yourself the struggles and triumphs of Romantic heroes!
